Common questions.
How do you convert km to miles?
Multiply kilometres by 0.6214 (or divide by 1.6093). So 5 km = 5 × 0.6214 = 3.107 miles, and 10 km ≈ 6.21 miles. Going the other way, multiply miles by 1.6093 to get kilometres. A quick mental shortcut: miles are roughly km × 0.6, which is close enough for a rough estimate.
How do you convert kg to lbs?
Multiply kilograms by 2.2046 to get pounds. So 70 kg = 70 × 2.2046 = 154.3 lb. To reverse it, multiply pounds by 0.4536 to get kilograms. For a fast estimate, doubling the kilograms and adding 10% gets you very close (70 → 140 + 14 = 154).
How do you convert cm to inches?
Divide centimetres by 2.54 (since 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly). So 30 cm = 30 ÷ 2.54 = 11.81 inches. To go from inches to cm, multiply by 2.54. Height example: 170 cm = 66.9 inches = 5 feet 6.9 inches.
Are US and UK (imperial) units the same?
For length and weight, yes. An inch, foot, mile, ounce and pound are identical in both systems. But volume differs: a US gallon is 3.785 litres while a UK/imperial gallon is 4.546 litres, and US and UK pints, cups and fluid ounces differ too. This converter uses US customary volumes; adjust if you're working with imperial recipes.
What is the difference between KB and KiB (data units)?
A kilobyte (KB) is 1,000 bytes, using the decimal (SI) system, which is how storage and network speeds are usually marketed. A kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes, the binary system operating systems often use. That 2.4% gap grows with size: a "1 TB" drive (1,000,000,000,000 bytes) shows as about 931 GiB in Windows. This converter includes both.
